pine needles afloat

this floating carpet of pine needles caught my eye yesterday in the wetlands in Radio Tower while we were clearing the trail...reminded me of the pine needles in ice shots i took at Kenney's Landing in the winter :)

the osprey family is again in residence in the marsh at Peirson Woods. this is the nest which was rebuilt quickly after the pole came down in a storm in march 2008 just in time for the opreys seasonal return :)

yesterday evening was low tide so i went heron hunting...looking for herons hunting for dinner :)

every time i drive down creek road and see this view of Ludes Estuary i want to stop and explore it with the camera...today i finally had an opportunity to do exactly that...

late spring in the wetland

i find myself fascinated by the light and lushness of the wetland at this time of year...this pair of images were shot from almost the same spot although almost 3:00 apart (it takes time to move the tripod and reset everything!!).

even though it was mid-day, or maybe because of that, being deep in the wetlands the light has a special glow to it...

i stayed out exploring the woods and the stream until the rains came...lovely soft light and dampness to bring out the colors :)

i do love photogenic tree bark! and i found a tree that fascinated me...both these images are from the same tree, the edges are only imches apart...and weathered and aged so differently...
