2 tree bark macros from the same tree

i stayed out exploring the woods and the stream until the rains came...lovely soft light and dampness to bring out the colors :)

i do love photogenic tree bark!  and i found a tree that fascinated me...both these images are from the same tree, the edges are only imches apart...and weathered and aged so differently...

stream geometrics

this morning being nicely overcast before the heavens opened and the thunder rolled i got out to shoot in the woods...and of course, a stream caught my eye!  usually i make the time exposure longer to get that silky water flow, but this time i wanted to capture the patterns i was seeing in the fast moving flow.

Sparrow's Mill, the way out...

this is the main view as i leave...route 6 is about 20 yards further, hard to believe!  standing here i can hear the traffic go by...

a few steps forward and a look down to the right and below...in the upper right is the main stream as it goes through on its way to aucoot cove and the bay.

and finally a shot to the left, up the feeder stream from the grassy bog area...

water over rocks

i love watching water flow :)  i find it mesmerising...especially at this time of year when the streams are full and the flow is fast!

bubble heads for trouble...

of course, some things just caught my eye, like how this bubble formed here under the rock, had a cycle, and then another formed there.

the lure of fast flowing water

i confess i really went to Sparrow's Mill to play with water shots :) this was the first image i took when i arrived at the stream's edge...

Sparrow's Mill just before spring!

spring looked possible today :)  and i'd been thinking of the stream at Sparrow's Mill again...so off i went!

the sun was out, it was warm enough to only have on one layer of jacket, and no gloves were needed...

a shot of color

today with the rain and clouds is so dreary that i felt in need of color...a late fall shot from White Eagle, along the shore of one of the retaining ponds.

color makes me smile :)

another two-fer

this is another pair of shots that were taken more-or-less 180º apart...i was standing where two streams - one large, one small - come together at Sparrow's Mill.

there was a lot of stonework built in the waterway to control the flow at the mill, way back when, i guess maybe when the Sparrow Brothers owned it, a century ago...

this little stream is about to join the much larger main one which is right behind me...

this section is right after the two streams join...on their way to Buzzards Bay...

HOLLY BARK

a few years ago i discovered a very tall holly tree over at Brainard marsh.  last fall i had a chance to take my macro lens over and explore the bark...this one made me think of papyrus scrolls...

VARIATIONS ON A THEME

Kenney's Landing, a November afternoon, 2 years ago...it was a lot warmer that day than it was today!!

anyway, sometimes a scenes compels me to explore many different compositions and framing, and sometimes it calls to me as a very specific image...here i wanted to do both versions of the same shot, even though in the vertical one the sky is rather bland.  the reflections were so fine on the Sippican River that day :)

FALL HERON

that late fall afternoon that i spent at Briggs' Cove i got to enjoy two great blue herons as they fished at low tide along the edge of the marshgrass just below route 6.  at some point though, it was time to leave...

FALL OSPREY

i didn't think the osprey hung around this long, but i shot this 2 years ago in Brigg's Cove...and over time it has remained a favorite fall image of mine :)
