christmas beach
another from my visit to the causeway beach...
another from my visit to the causeway beach...
yesterday the sunset had grand gradient color after the sun went down, and it reflected on the beach at the planting island causeway...
yesterday i had a chance to shoot some ice before we get slammed with a foot of snow tonight :( it was sunset, and the ice was at the high tide line of the rocks along the shore...
and i like the melting drops in this one...
today the water was very very still, no wind, quite mild...i spotted this guy when i walked the tideline.
i had a chance to return to the knockout roses one morning soon after...and with rain, snow, and cold forecast i took advantage of the opportunity!
i don't usually associate december with roses blooming, but they sure are in a nearby outdoor garden!
sometimes i just need a colorful moment in a harbor sunset to make me smile...this was taken over 15:00 after the sun went down! the other day i went out with the objective of keeping my head up - not engrossed in my macros! - and appreciating the wider view...
another broken but beautiful whelk :) taken as a long exposure about 20:00 after the sun went down...
with the storms moving in and out lately i've been able to take advantage of the sunset color and the occasional stillness to shoot more marshgrass. this was shot about 6:00 before sunset as the sun was sinking rapidly, no clouds though. i had spotted this colorful blade of grass and camped out there for the final moments...
this glasswort was shot about 3 weeks ago - i was surprised to discover that i had not posted it! i think too the weather has been so stormy, rainy, and gloomy in the last few days that i needed a burst of color to brighten things up :)
not every shell is pristine...and this nicely solved the problem of shooting the inside of the whelk :)
yesterday i got my wish...no wind...or at least pretty still :) so back to the marshgrass!
and a parting shot of our friend about 5:00 after the sunset...
going back to #1, i recall how much i loved that dramatic light on him when i first arrived although the technicals of shooting it that way were challenging...but i have to say my favorite light starts around #3 and continues on til sunset...much softer, gentler, and colorful :) and all over a period of about 35:00!!
and 4:00 later the light was still holding...the sun is partway through the horizon by now with less than 10:00 to go til official sunset.
the warm bent rays held as the sun kept sinking...although the light itself was rapidly losing its strength. this was taken 6:00 after the previous post.
the sun sank rapidly that afternoon as the clouds softened the light :) this was shot only 2:00 after the previous post.
then the sun hit the horizon line and started to get some warm reflections off those clouds...
yesterday i arrived at the shore and started setting up with a bit less than an hour til sunset. diffusing clouds were up there, maybe too many for the same show as the night before, but still some good light to be had...while walking the waterline i spied this shell, and smiled :) i spent the next hour with it. i will be posting my exploration of time and light with this shell in chronological order.
number 1, one of my first shots of it. the sun is just above the horizon, and so strong and direct upon it, and the contrast between the bright shell and the shadows is wide.
pink seems to be the color of fall this year for me :)))
this was last night over half an hour after sunset...amazing!
