2 POINTS OF VIEW
literally...over at Kenney's Landing i took these 2 shots from more or less the same place...
first looking up the river:
and then down the river:
FALL RIVER REFLECTIONS
this is the reward at the end of the Gallison Woods trail :)
OSPREY ON THE HUNT
the osprey and the heron kept me occupied that afternoon at Briggs Cove...
FALL HERON
that late fall afternoon that i spent at Briggs' Cove i got to enjoy two great blue herons as they fished at low tide along the edge of the marshgrass just below route 6. at some point though, it was time to leave...
FALL OSPREY
i didn't think the osprey hung around this long, but i shot this 2 years ago in Brigg's Cove...and over time it has remained a favorite fall image of mine :)
FALLING WATER
all this rain we've been having just reminds me of how much i love water images...all kinds, but moving water is certainly special :) this is the stream at Sparrow's Mill one afternoon last february...makes me think it might be a grand spot to check out now after the rains stop...the stream should be plenty full and flowing after all this rain :)
ANOTHER TRAIL SHOT
i just was looking back a bit here and realized how many recent ones are portrait shots, so this is a landscape oriented one :) a couple of things i've realized since working with the SLT:
1) you *always* need more trail images...and,
2) they are really challenging to shoot well!
last month in Gallison Woods i got several :)
LOOKING UPSTREAM
this is looking upstream away from the river and back into Gallison Woods...
LOOKING UPRIVER
i keep going back to these Gallison Woods images...it was an overcast afternoon and that made the light smooth and the colors rich :) this is a view looking upriver from where our trail meets the river's edge.
FALL CORDGRASS
this one stalk of cordgrass caught my eye the other day while i was out shooting some landscapes for the SLT...time for the macro lens! the marsh was already in evening sunset shadow when i took this.
THE FAR BANK OF THE STREAM
i just wanted to focus on and admire the leaves as they covered the ground here on the far bank of that stream...fall is all about leaves and color :) and on an overcast cloudy day the light can make them sing!
THE TRAIL CURVES RIGHT
another part of the Gallison Woods trail coming back from the river...
i was once told that shooting woods in dappled light is close to impossible, and the more i know the harder it is...so i love to find shots inside the woods that are successful :)
FALL STREAMSIDE
there is something special about the mix of colors in the fall...and when water is added, magic...this is a stream in Gallison Woods just a few feet away from where it flows into the Sippican River.
SUNRISE OVER STEWART'S ISLAND
saturday morning found me at silvershell at sunrise. i love the view of Stewart's island from there, and i was hoping with rain promised for later that day the sunrise would have some nice color...it was nice but did not develop as i had hoped...still some nice color though...
BIRCHBARK PEEL
the macro lens sprang to mind when i spotted this birch tree with the bark peeling all over it at Gallison Woods :) i got a mere few inches away from the tree trunk with the camera on the tripod and shot 2 of these, each with a different point of focus. combining them results in more depth of field than normal with my aperture wide open.
and look at all those colors in the tree...
FALL TRAIL
this was taken along the Gallison Woods trail on the way back from the river. i was attracted to the light and color of these woods, and to these two trunks as they marked the way...
TRAIL WORK
yesterday we put in a few hours clearing out the trail at Gallison Woods. bamboo shrouded the beginning of the trail and several trees were down across it further on. here's what greeted us when we arrived - not a very appealing start to a trail!!
here's what it looked like an hour and a half later!
more was done with shears and a chainsaw further down the trail too as logs and large limbs had made parts of the trail tough going.
now one can get right down to the river's edge for this wide view of the river!
quite a contrast to those images below from just a couple of years ago at Kenney's landing...i think we've had a blizzard or two since then...
FALL ON THE RIVER
streams and small creeks can dry up over the summer. these images are from my first time out at Kenney's Landing a few years ago in the fall and while the Sippican River itself was flowing, although low and slow, the side streams were not. it was spooky to me to be standing in a dry bed with signs of running water surrounding me...suddenly winter and snow were very appealing!
